| Throughout this five day voyage from Tromso to Kirkenes in the far north of Norway and back, astronomy expert Dr John Mason will be on hand to help passengers to understand more about the Northern Lights and the night sky. He will explore the myriad myths and legends linked to the constellations in our skies and hopefully the Northern Lights will come out for everyone to see. Dr Mason is a principal lecturer at the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester and a visiting lecturer at Imperial College London. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society since 1975 and lecturers extensively around the UK. He has also appeared many times with Patrick Moore on BBC TV’s The Sky at Night. The ship will travel above the Arctic Circle for the whole journey along the coast of Norway and ports of call include Hammerfest, the world’s most northernmost town, Honningsvag, the doorway to the North Cape and Kirkenes just 10km from the Russian border. This four night trip departs London Heathrow on 30 January 2008 and costs from E1380 per person. The price includes return flights, three nights half board on the ship, one night’s B&B in Tromso, transfers, taxes and the onboard lecturer. There are no single supplements. |
